Being a part of the Donors Choose family is an amazing way to support students and classrooms. I was so thrilled to see that my project was funded and that I would be able to bring in some fresh reads and new games for my students.\r\n\r\nThe Read. Play. Connect: Building Readers and Friendships! project was a great success, thanks to all of you! The kids were thrilled to see the new games and tubs of new chapter books. Right away kids were eager to look through and borrow the OBOB books (Oregon Battle of the Books), as well as the other chapter books. The Secret Garden on 81st Street, City of Ember, Hatchet, and Odder have been making the rounds; kids are eager to get their hand on each of them. Harry Potter and The One and Only Ivan have also been popular. Thank you so much for helping me keep my classroom library up-to-date with high quality books.\r\n\r\nPulling out a new tub of books is always a big hit! Not only have the books inspired readers, the games have brought classmates together and are a big hit, too. Battleship has been extremely popular, as well as Guess Who? and checkers. The class is always excited for our Friday afternoon Game Time. They look forward to gathering with friends and classmates for some good old-fashion fun. No computers allowed:-) This time of the week is so joyful - kids talking, laughing, and smiling together. They are so responsible and inclusive; Turns are shared and games carefully clean up so that they will be available for others in the future.\r\n\r\nSo thank you again Donors Choose community for supporting my classroom and allowing us to all grow as readers and build lasting friendships.","fullyFundedDate":1755712622231,"projectUrl":"project/read-play-connect-building-readers-an/9628372/","projectTitle":"Read. Many of my students are fluent readers of fiction as we spend a lot of time reading novels that they love, but we had previously had a lack of exposure to non-fiction text. I also have many students this year that are interested in current events and science. Being able to address both of these issues with the engaging Time For Kids magazines has helped my class gain the informational text skills that they need but also has grown their interest in the world and how things work!
