Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an art class, our classroom needs are always the last to be considered. After 5 years in this school, I still have no way to project information to the class as a whole. The information students can gain via the Internet projections are endless: Virtual tours of galleries, artworks, and fashion.

We are located in a rural and repressed area of South Carolina.

Many of our students are being raised by uneducated or illiterate parents who themselves never reached their full educational potential. Some because of financial difficulties, others because of poor choices such as drugs, alcohol, or early pregnancy. Many of our students have learned basic survivor skills at an early age. Our current students' best hope for a future is to gain education and skills with emphasis on technical, industrial, or creative abilities. Upon graduation, students need to seek a larger more industrial city to search for the career of their choice. The arts offer many career choices such as fashion designer, interior designer, clay potter, floral designer, architect, and many more. The arts encourage students to reach out and explore other intelligences. It encourages students to think on a higher level. Students learn how to coordinate the use of their hands and their minds concurrently.

My Project

The PROJECTOR that I am requesting will open their eyes not only to arts outside our immediate area, but to the entire world. It will give them an opportunity to see art and most importantly fashions in other countries. It will encourage them to use their creativity to it's fullest potential. It will hopefully encourage them to seek a life outside of their current parameters. Students will learn to appreciate the aesthetics, history, culture, and dynamics of other cities and countries. Creativity will then come more naturally. I call the title of my project "Rags to Fashion" because I know that many of our students can relate. Fashion is a passion at this age. They have learned from life's experiences how to improvise. New outfits and fabrics come easily by way of discarded clothing. Creativity comes easily in these young minds. However, being able to VIEW OTHER AREAS OF THE WORLD does not come quiet as easily. My hope is that the requested PROJECTOR will inspire all students.

Most importantly this request will have an impact on students by helping to maintain their interest in the arts and creative expressionism.

It will open their minds to a much broader spectrum than what they have become accustomed to. It will help them to gain perspectives from all nations. Hopefully it will encourage them to become the best that they can be and reach for their dreams.
