This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading provides students with the ability to understand life from various avenues. I teach 6th language arts, in a Title One school. I thought to myself that I need to help bring back the importance of reading novels, and contemporary ones at that.

Reading novels helps students find ways to relate their lives with characters that they encounter.

For this reason I believe Language Arts is a wonderful place to question so many of life's challenges and often times this is the only place students can feel safe doing just that. I keep hearing that Title One schools receive so much money, I have found our school not to be one of them. My students deserve to have novels that are up to date and we just do not have the funds to do that with in our school. I know that my students would be able to find a passion for reading if we showed them that we care about finding novels that relate to who they are. Once they find that one novel that grabs their attention, that is when we create students that love to read.

My Project

We need a class set of the novel Middle School Stinks More Than Meatloaf. The students really can relate to the theme of surviving as a teenager within society. Reading novels like Middle School Stinks More Than Meatloaf would continue to prove to them that there are many children that face the same problems. Middle School Stinks More Than Meatloaf is able to tell the story of finding the voice within yourself to rise above all of life's struggles. This book helps shine a light unto many students that need a little piece of hope.

By donating a class set of novels, it will help show my students that people really do care about their future and their personal enjoyment of reading.
