My Students

Who introduced you to your first chapter book that you loved? I want to give the opportunity to my students to fall in love with chapter books and the adventures they share.

My students are all from low income families with little outside the neighborhood experiences.

They all have a love for learning, but need someone to share with them the love and encouragement. Our school is a Title I school with 98% of students on free or reduced priced lunch.

My Project

My students need chapter books such as Butterfies in my Stomach, Maniac Magee, and Bud, Not Buddy, at different reading levels and interests for small group reading. With these chapter books, I will be able to work with small groups of children on building stamina and excitement about reading chapter books. I have chosen nonfiction and fiction books to capture my students love of being on an adventure while reading.

This will make a huge impact on my students for their compassion and ability to read.

It will give them a chance to read a longer book and be able to be proud of themselves and tell others about what they have accomplished!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
