We went over (carefully) as a class how to handle using the power strips gently so they will last forever. As one student plugged in, then another (and then another...), an increasing number of new and unique sounds began to fill the room. The students' faces lit up, there were smiles all around the classroom, and students began to explore what their new instruments could do. Students were sharing musical ideas with their neighbors, including two students who did not even previously get along! Students are intrigued by the air purifier and even though I have already announced to the classes what you have done for us, they are still asking questions about it! Today alone, I have already had a fourth grader ask, \"What is it?\" The other students told him what it was. They are always amazed when they hear that you wanted to help us and helped pay for it for us!\r\n\r\nWe can definitely feel the difference with the purifier in the room. The school was recently sprayed for insects (roaches, etc., unbeknownst to me) and I entered the school and thought my room smelled a little different. Sure enough, I plugged in the purifier, it let me know that there was a higher concentration of VOCs in the room and its auto function got to work purifying our air. It was back to normal within a short period of time.\r\n\r\nAlso, with the change in season, there are a lot of allergens in the air. This affects faculty, staff, and students alike. We know the air purifier is working well because we are breathing fine in the classroom and only start sneezing as we approach the exits to the school! One fifth grader came close to the machine and started telling the class how good the air smelled! \r\n\r\nAs we begin preparation for our next concert (December concert anticipated), the students will have cleaner air to inhale as we work together in learning our pieces to work toward mastery for our public performance! Our older students will also begin receiving beginning piano keyboard instruction soon (a first for our school) as we are in the process of launching a piano instruction program at Reid Park Academy.
