My Students

Students gather at separate areas in my classroom for math meetings, story time, spelling and reading, as well as other important subjects. With a colorful rug, my first graders will be more excited to sit and learn at the carpet.

I have recently found how important it is to give students the freedom to guide their own learning.

In order to do this, students have to feel their classroom is a comfortable and inviting place to learn, and having a captivating and inviting carpet in my class room will allow the students a wider variety of fun choices to sit and learn! The rugs will also be an anchor as I provide whole group lessons and small group instruction. Having a rug allows me to sit comfortably with one group at the carpet.

My Project

The first graders will learn to master the alphabet letter by letter! The carpet has roomy squares for every letter—each with an upper- and lowercase letter, plus a bright, easy-to-recognize picture. The students can explore the alphabet from beginning to end, practice letter recognition and letter-sound association or just sit on their favorite letters!

On average my first grade class has between twenty-three to twenty-six students.

With two 9' x 12' rectangle carpets, my students will be able to comfortably work on and around the carpet. The carpet will also provide a structured learning environment in which everyone can benefit.
