My Students

"My batteries are DEAD" is a common cry heard in the math classrooms in my school. The cry usually results with the teacher replacing calculator batteries. However, we no longer have school funding to supply calculator batteries; and, unfortunately, no batteries means no calculators.

I currently teach Geometry at a high school that is classified as a critical needs high school.

My high school serves many bright, energetic students who despite the fact that they come from very low-income homes, come to school each day and strive to learn. Through the use of technology, like calculators, I try to keep my students actively engaged and excited. The loss of batteries to power our calculators is sure to be devastating.

My Project

In order to best prepare my students for the geometry courses they may face in college, I teach students how to use technology to solve geometric problems in addition to the older paper & pencil methods. The world today is very technology centered, and, to best prepare my students, I need to expose them to the technology and skills they will be expected to understand once they enter college and/or the workforce.

The resources I have requested will enable me to teach my students the steps for solving geometric problems as well as ready them for college and the "real world".

Also, the resources will provide my students with the necessary tools required for them to meet state (and national) mathematics standards.
