Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember kindergarten? Everything is new and exciting, but sometimes scary. Kindergartners need a developmentally appropriate activity to increase their ability to remain focused on a creative, yet structured activity while they learn to negotiate and cooperate with their peers.

Most my kindergartners have never been in a school setting before.

Most come from limited income families and have not been exposed to the rigorous expectations that are placed upon them at such a young age. My school is restructuring their approach at teaching our wonderfully bright "at risk" students. We are implementing more developmentally appropriate strategies for supporting the achievement of these early learners, while maintaining the high rigor of their academic instruction.

My Project

I will use this tactile table to encourage students to remain focused on one specific activity as they learn to interact with one another and building their language skills. This table will not just be used for "free play" but rather a focused, yet creative venue for learning to work together, problem-solve and strengthen their ability to remain focused on a task. These skills will support their ability to remain focused in their academics and build their early literacy and problem-solving skills.
