My Students

Written words can actually speak! Pause for a moment and consider that... With a Live Scribe Pen, students can write words on paper & attach sounds to those words. When students write the word "rainforest", they can hear it read back to them and they can actually hear the sounds of the Rainforest.

These K-3 students are the heart of rural farming America--some students are Deaf/Heard of Hearing, or nonverbal, some are English language and culture learners, most are high poverty--but all deserve to have the tools necessary to learn to read & write and to convey & comprehend meaningful messages.

My Project

A Live Scribe Pen will provide all students with unlimited access to teacher instruction any time and anywhere. It's an extension of the classroom that makes curriculum accessible to all. It will allow written words to have a voice or sound. It is truly remarkable with this devise will provide to students. 1. Students can hear their own voice (or another voice) accompany written words; 2. Word or symbols can have sounds (voice, music, nature, animal, etc); 3. Test questions can be "read" aloud to individual students; 4. Word walls or vocabulary words can be "read" to students- over and over again, if necessary; 5. Students can hear their own written responses to test questions or worksheets; 6. Pictures, diagrams, and graphs can "talk." For example, students can create a mural of the Mississippi River. On the mural itself, the sounds of the steamboat can be heard, the music of the Mississippi can be heard, an oral book report can be heard, & it all can be translated into Spanish.

You have the power to make it possible to engage these young students in multisensory learning experiences that will ignite their love of learning---they will be able to actually see written words and hear the sounds & concepts associated with those words.

They will develop auditory and visual background knowledge essential to learning. They will be actively engaged in the learning process; they will learn and become productive readers and writers...let's give them wings and allow them to soar.
