My Students

Did you know fluorescent lights have a glare that causes headaches, stress & eyestrain? They also put off harmful UV rays. My students have to work under these conditions everyday. Although florescent lighting is the most economical way for schools it is the worst lighting for learning.

I have 83 energetic, curious, wonderful students.

They attend a rural school but in a fast growing district. Our school is nestled between three other school districts-one rural and 2 metropolitan. This unique situation has allowed us to have a very diversified student population. Several of the languages spoken in my classroom are Persian, Spanish, Chinese, English, and Russian. I am thankful for all the differences these children bring. As we celebrate and learn more about each other it creates an atmosphere of acceptance, tolerance and love.

My Project

If you were an employer, would you purposely create a work environment that forced your employees to cope with the glare, stress, eyestrain, headaches, and visual fatigue? Of course not! Yet my students find themselves working under those very conditions, five days a week! As a result, students are absent more and optimal learning is often not reached due to something as small as the lights in their classroom. By having these light filters and easily installing them over my lights will create an environment that is conducive to optimal learning. Students will be able to stay more focused and not experience fatigue and stress as they learn throughout the day.
