My Students

There are Gym teachers who provide excellent learning experiences, and who occasionally play the game of Dodgeball because it's fun and exciting and fast-paced and the kids love it. There are others who abuse the game of Dodgeball and don't teach. Because of them, Dodgeball has been outlawed.

My students are grades 2-6 who enjoy the occasional game of 'Mr. S-Ball' since we don't play that outlawed game.

We play a similar kind of chasing/fleeing/throwing and dodging game, but the round soft throwable objects we use have been borrowed by other teachers or been used too hard and too often. These soft round throwy-things have a thousand uses besides the above stated, and we really need some replacements.

My Project

Soft non-impact playground balls can be used for indoor soccer, kickball, learning the mechanics of throwing, dribbling like basketballs, can be used as volleyballs, can be placed upon a cone whose top 3 inches have been cut off to serve as a modified baseball T, and many many others. The Scatterball game is the opposite of Dodgeball and avoids many of the collisions that can occur during that game. The 6-sized soft dice also double to teach action-based learning to K-1-2 children.

Sometimes it's the teaching that is the most important Thing.

But to run a railroad, you need railroad track. Gym teachers need equipment and playground balls are about the most used things in physical education, besides shoes. Purchasing these valuable items will help sustain an important part of my program - the ability of kids to learn through the tactile experiences that soft, non-impact 'Dodgeballs' give. Even if Dodgeball has been outlawed, my kids still need the round thingys.
