My Students

Imagine American Idol right here in our own school? These drama queens in the picture are waiting for their chance! The sound system with mics will have many uses, including learning the musical programs for our parents. We can't wait to do karaoke, too. What a great way to motivate my students!

Our school struggles, like many in Wisconsin, with budget short-falls.

The district is a majority of mid-to-low social-economic families. We have had to depend upon fund-raisers to provide equipment such as our computer lab. There just isn't enough for special things like microphones and sound systems. The photo shows just three of the talented performers that would love to do more but we don't have a sound system to use in our gym. Elementary students love warming up to music. Music is especially important to reach struggling and special students. So all of my students, 234 in grades pre-kindergarten through 4th grade, would benefit from this gift. Their creativity can blossom with the addition of this musical equipment. This all started five years ago when I helped introduce roller skating as a gym unit. They always heard music at the roller rink, so we began playing music in PE by whatever means we could. Their improvement was all the evidence I needed.

My Project

When I started looking at what was available I got so excited. I have all these ideas on how to use music, dance, and karaoke to motivate learners. So I chose a karaoke machine and microphones that fit within the allowed point budget. I am so excited that I am looking forward to developing units for other classes to utilize. In physical education I want to lead learners into healthy and active life-styles. The sound machine can play regular Cd's, and karaoke Cd+G's (with words on monitor screen). It also acts as an amplifier for public speaking. The students will have the ability to tape their performances, as well as sing in small groups. The re-chargeable microphones will be a real blessing. We do not have these for our bi-annual performances. So the microphones will have class use and extra-curricular use. I won't have to worry about buying batteries (no budget), and there will not be wires to trip over (safety).

One of the biggest concerns in America is the growing numbers of obese children.

Technology has grown but unfortunately so has non-physical activity, and in direct proportion. Life-style habits are learned; it is important to me to help my students learn ways to stay healthy their whole life. Music is the best venue I know of. Please consider my project in your giving, as the impact will be in all our school's performing arts and elementary gym. There are three girls who would love to show off for you!
