This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Capturing the imagination of students in an urban, economically disadvantaged setting can be difficult. Teaching them to appreciate and perform music other than what they hear on popular radio can be as well. My mission is to inspire them to love music and to become performers.

Our school is in a large city.

75% of our students come from an economically disadvantaged situation. We are working to bring music instruction to them by supplying high quality equipment and instruction. Even though they face many challenges socially and economically they are achieving great success academically. Our school has achieved "recognized" academic standing in the state of Texas. We are putting high expectations on the children and they rise to the challenge every time.

My Project

The CD and SD card recording device would give us a great way to record our students in a variety of locations. It's portability and flexibility would allow us to record groups of students or individuals in the classroom, on stage or in a practice room. Students would be able to have a recording of themselves instantly. The instant playback would allow them to hear themselves and make adjustments on the spot. They would be able to compare their performance with standard recordings and be more analytical of their own performance.

We are making a difference in the life of over 200 band students in our program.

We are changing the life and culture of our school for the better. The CD and SD recording device will help us expand that reach and take our instruction to the next level.
