My Students

Students in this district are limited in their abilities to see beyond the everyday and art allows them to dream. Especially this particular project to design a city using perspective.

This is an inner city school that is facing extreme budgetary cuts.

Our students are faced with poverty everyday of their lives and coming to school should be a safe haven for them to be nothing more than be children. Having fun is the one thing they can do with art. Expressing themselves through the visual arts and putting a pleasant outlook on things rather than facing the bleak reality of the outside world.

My Project

"Perspective Made Easy" is a project to create a cityscape, students will be using pencils, rulers, tape for masking out the areas to draw on and of course erasers for those occasional mistakes. Students will create a cityscape of a city of their dreams. Students in this school have dreams just like any other child except there are many road blocks here that sometimes prevent our children (yes, I call them our children)from fore filling their dreams. There are gangs everywhere and they need to make a conscious decision not to be a part of it. They fight everyday to be normal as anyone else. High School and college are their only way out. Every student appreciates what their teachers try to do for them. Once out of this environment they do come back and visit and say just two words that melts every teachers heart "Thank you!". That's why we teach, we do it for them. That's why we ask for your help to fund our project. Students will use these supplies to create their imaginary city.

Giving to this project changes the lives of so many children.

It could be just what they need to get into college, as you are aware art is a required course for graduation and what they learn in high school art is a basis for a college drawing and composition course. Students enjoy the freedom and creativity of art. Art is enjoyable to look at and also great to create. Students get so much from so little. Your generosity is truly amazing to me.
