My Students

Do you remember your first school experiences? Your teachers? Your friends? Please help my students record their first years in school, their friends, their work, what they learned, and their special memories through photography.

We are a combination class of kindergarten and first grade children that find learning exciting and who are enthused to be at school!

They are like little sponges absorbing EVERYTHING I can teach them, and finding new things to learn on their own and from each other. We work and learn together in a Title I school with a very high percentage of students and families living in low income homes. Our school has a large group of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students. While poverty and language can present big barriers for students, we are learning not to let our challenges get in the way of learning or loving life. I strive each day to help my students find joy in their lives and in being together and learning. Our class is a wonderful place to be!

My Project

Last school year our class was able to purchase an HP photo printer for our classroom through a funded Donors Choose grant. We use this printer to document our learning for ourselves, our parents, and principal, to make bulletin boards, take photos of things we discover in nature on walks, in lessons, in book-making, to record the passing of seasons, but most of all to collect our memories. We need a new supply of ink and paper for the upcoming school year to help our new friends be able to experience the joy of recording and printing their photography and sharing their learning and work with others.

At the end of each year my students make a memory book with all of their photos, samples of their art and writing, an autograph page, and favorite memories.

These memory books are cherished by the kids and their families. Each year I hear from former students and family members who tell me face-to-face, via email, or even on Facebook about how much they still enjoy looking through their memory books. Please help me make this project happen for another group of wonderful kids! We need you!
