My Students

Mainly coming from low income families, my students, except for a brief time at school, do not get the chance to experiment with new technology. Our district does a great job providing teachers with technology to use with students, but not much technology for students themselves.

My students are very needy.

They are in need of attention and have the need to feel safe at school. They are also in need of technology that can peak their interest and get them ready to face the world outside of their low income neighborhood. At our school we are striving to provide the best education to all of our students, with whatever resources available and having this technology would put us that much closer to achieving our goal.

My Project

With the Flip video camcorders and editing software, students will be able to create, shoot, star-in, and edit their own movies. As a teacher I am always trying to make writing real and relevant lessons to my students. What's more relevant than writing and creating a movie about the water cycle, fractions, or Kansas history? Having the students take what they have learned and teach others through create plays, performances, and broadcasts makes learning real and fun. It also gives them those necessary skills of working with technology that they will take with them into the future.

There are so many skills that students use to make a classroom movie - writing skills, teamwork, movie production and editing, and using creative ways to share what they have learned with others.
