My Students

Do you remember when you were in Kindergarten? When I was in Kindergarten I remember playing! Kindergarten today is a lot different. There is no time for "playing". Today's Kindergarten student has a higher level of rigor to reach.

I teach at a Title I school.

I teach kindergarten in an urban school district. Our Kindergarten program is an all day program. The students at my school come from poverty and receive little support at home. Our school has a very large population of ESL students. I have 15 students in my class with 4 of them being special need students.

My Project

My desire is to create a love of reading within each student, as I help them develop their oral language skills. I feel that my children will benefit greatly from "hands-on" activities that give them the opportunity to explore and "play." The alphabet puppets and stand will not only create an opportunity for my children to explore and "play" but help them learn to identify the letters of the alphabet- a critical skill. I plan on using the alphabet puppets during my instruction time to help introduce each letter of the alphabet. I also will have the puppets in a center called the "Puppet Center" where children can go and "play" to develop their language and letter skills.

Research states that play is the first and most important mode of instruction in Kindergarten.

By providing resources like puppets to my classroom it would allow my children to develop confidence in themselves and collaborate with others to solve problems. It also allows students to develop their creative skills. Help us bring the play back to Kindergarten!!
