My Students

Nothing beats the sparkle in a child's eye and the smile on their face as they are reading independently for the first time! Thank you for helping them to achieve such a joy!

I teach in a small Title 1 school.

90% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. The social-economic level is very low. We serve an area that is very diverse. Over 26 nationalities are represented at our school. My kindergarten students are eager to learn. They are very curious about the world around them. Some of them come to school prepared for kindergarten. Many of them have not had the life experiences that I grew up with which encourage the importance of education. The parents are hard workers and trying to provide the necessities for their children. Some are educated. Many of them are not.

My Project

The learning games I am requesting will give the students practice in the foundations of reading. They will help the children learn to recognize the sounds they hear in a word and also how to blend the sounds together to make a word. These games will be great to work with while teaching a small group of children or as an independent practice for individuals or partnered students.

Reading is the basis for everything we learn, experience and accomplish in life. We want to give our students every opportunity we can to reach their maximum academic and social potential every day! This project will be an essential stepping stone for each student's success.
