Classroom Makeover

My students need supplies from both Office and Home Depot to completely make over our classroom.

My Students

When my students first walk into my classroom they see cinder block walls, old desks/chairs, and bars on the windows. This room needs a makeover and my students will be the ones doing. They will paint. They will build. They will make the room and the school better for those that follow them.

My students are ninth and tenth graders from the heart of Katrina Recovery.

Although the storm is about five years old, its effects still linger today. I have students who missed a year or more of their education because of Katrina. The echo effect of Katrina in their formative years is seen in my classroom today. My students need a little inspiration to meet their goals.

My Project

I am asking for supplies from Office Depot and Home Depot. With your donations we will purchase the materials needed to makeover my classroom. This entire project will be student driven. It is their learning that we will be building for, so it must all be their design. They will pick out the colors with which we will paint my walls and the plants to hang in front of the barred windows. They will paint the walls and hang the plants. They will design the student workstation to be built for making poster projects and design contests, measure and pick out the materials, and then build it. They will pick out posters, frames, the electronics for the workstation, and other wall coverings to complete the makeover. After this project has been completed, my room will become less mine and more theirs.

This project will inspire my students.

Those making over the room will provide a brighter future for those that will be entering the room the next school year. As Shakespeare said about mercy, I say about giving, “It is twice blessed. It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.” Donate to this project and not only will you and I be blessed, but my students will feel that same blessing as they both give and receive.
