Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade at a school in a low performing district in a high needs community. I have many English language learners and students of all academic levels in my class.

We are lucky enough to have a Promethean board in our classroom but need the voting devices to go with it so we can prepare to take tests, especially the BIG one...the California Standardized Test (STAR).

Our school does "Power Hour" which entails lots of test prep for Language and Mathematics for one hour at the end of the day. Math is what we are focusing on at our school. Math Intervention during the school day is one way we focus on math. Second graders go to choir 4 days a week so that the teachers can do math intervention with a small group of students who are scoring intensive and strategic(below) on their math quizzes.

My Project

I would like to be able to put the sample STAR test questions on the Promethean board so that my students can answer independently by using an ACTIvote. The ACTIvotes let each student enter their answer and will let them see how each of them did on the question. I will be able to see if I need to review the standard again in a matter of a minute. I will be able to see what percentage of the group responded correctly/incorrectly. This then will lead my teaching during this valuable intervention time.

With the use of the ACTIvotes, I will be able to see how my class is learning each Math(and Language Art)standard.

I will be able to re-teach on the spot rather than waiting for the results of a paper test. Not only will the use of these student responders (ACTIvotes) help them with learning, but it will also add some FUN to learning.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
