My Students

Have you ever tried catching a butterfly with a large fishing net? If you are lucky you might catch one or two in the cross strings, but most likely they slip through the holes. Catching the interest of techno savvy students is a real challenge in today's classroom.

Students in my classroom come from diverse backgrounds with an array of needs and interests.

They have a thirst for learning about the world around them. I teach a small group of below grade level, struggling readers and 3 classes of science and social studies. Although they are eager, making the curriculum come alive for them is my greatest challenge. Students today are accustomed to all kinds of high tech entertainment at their finger tips.

My Project

In our 21st Century classroom, we have a Promethean board that is sparking students' interests and minds. Having a netbook in the classroom where they can create their own multi-media science and social studies presentations will further capture their young minds and prepare them with the skills they will need to be successful in the future- whether that is high school, college, or business. Also, the ability to travel with the netbook would allow me or my college student/ classroom aid to create flipcharts for the Promethean board from anywhere. It would also, allow me to create flipcharts that will inspire and captivate my struggling students. These students need to connect what they are learning with the real world and their real world is all about technology (DS games, Playstations, Ipods, computers, etc).

Teaching is not just throwing information out there for students and hoping they get caught in the net of learning.

The minds of these young butterflies are so fragile and flittering, that I need the right net to capture their attention in order for them to be successful in their learning. An HP netbook is the right net for them!
