Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Practice makes perfect! Have you ever recited this phrase? It's practically a mantra in my AP Psychology class. With motivated students, the challenge is lack of funding for proper support materials to facilitate this essential practice.
My students are bright, inquisitive, thoughtful, and highly motivated upperclassmen that have elected to take a rigorous AP class.
Although my students bring enthusiasm into the class, unfortunately I can only provide them with a textbook and a few handouts that I have collected throughout the years. My students come to class every day ready and willing to put in the time and effort to be serious AP students, therefore it is my hope to be able to share more resources to boost their scores on the AP exam.
My Project
These resources, which seem like a staple for any successful AP program, are the missing ingredient to my program. With supplemental AP Psychology test prep books, my students will be able to test their knowledge and skills by taking practice exams that target their specific needs. The books also provide students with sample writing questions and responses. Students will also share flashcards, which help them review key concepts on the exam. All of these extras will give my students an opportunity to boost their AP scores.
Since my students come from a low income area, the opportunity to earn college credit is critical for their self-esteem, as well as their wallet.
My students feel intimidated by the rigor of AP, but with support, I hope to break down these walls and help them realize that they have the potential to do well on this exam. Earning college credit in high school will also ease some of the expense that students will face in college.
