My Students

Today's students are technologically ahead of students 15 years ago, but are behind socially and often struggle to play in cooperative groups.

I teach 7th grade math to about 110 students and am on an interdisciplinary team in a middle school.

Student motivation is more difficult today with so many outside influences. Students often lack the social skills needed to work in a group. One way that our team has found effective is through game time. Our team lacks the resources to include the entire team in a game session. Students enjoy game time, but we have to borrow supplies or lack enough to offer this to more than 10 students at a time. We would be able to offer this more frequently if we had our own materials.

My Project

Team 7B is requesting a variety of games that would allow us to teach students to work in cooperative groups and at the same time challenge them academically. Strategy games are just the way to do this. Students learn to work with others, they learn reasoning skills and they learn to share.

Students will better function as adults if they can get along with others.

A great way to do this and still challenge academically is through the use of games. Some of the best memories I hold as a child are playing board games with friends and family. I would like to pass these memories on to my students.
