This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help our kids enter the 21st century with a projector! Online content is included in most of our curriculum programs, but the kids can't see it on our old computers. If I could show them the animations, living glossaries, and games, motivation and achievement will increase!
I teach 26 students in a high poverty urban area.
81% are eligible for subsidized lunch programs, and 93% hail from minority ethnic groups. At just over 200 students enrolled, our school feels like a suburban neighborhood school sometimes. If only we had the resources that those schools did! Most of the teachers here shell out their own money weekly to help provide supplies and resources for our population. The kids have so much potential and our faculty is so passionate about helping them meet it!
My Project
With a projector, instead of holding up objects at the front of the room or drawing rough sketches on the board, I can just plug in my laptop and kablam! Things come to life. All the math lessons have animated explanations that help my students visualize the concepts. There are on-line graphic manipulatives to show how things are put together or taken apart. I really wish I could have shown these to them during our last unit on volume. And what about slide presentations? No more flipping chart paper, erasing white boards, copying things onto overhead paper. Just plug it in and viola! A student needs to look at the last slide? Click! Done. I want to read something with the whole group without having to make multiple copies for everyone. Projectable books! They are included in our reading program. If only I had a projector.
You can't imagine how much this projector will simplify things in my classroom and make things so much more efficient.
Imagine students creating their own slide shows and sharing them with the whole class. Imagine being able to show documents during writer's workshop and revising them without mucking up an overhead with wipe-off markers. Imagine being able to video conference with pen-pals from another state in a way that everyone in class can see what is going on. Communication, motivation, success!
