My Students

My students are from low income families, where the TV is the babysitter and money can not be spared for a book. The school system is more focused on a reading series that has no real novels included. I want my students to not only develop a love for reading, but imagine the impossible.

My students are mostly from hard working single parent families that are struggling to stay afloat.

Often working two jobs leaves the TV as the babysitter and the with money that tight books are not a part of their lives. Our district uses a specific reading program where the thickest book is about 20 pages. I want my students to read and get lost in the imagination of this classical literary work. I want them to be interested in the description and the wonder of the world outside the everyday. To see that even in tough times their is magic to be found. My students know the taught times, but not the magic. Additionally I want them to care and want to find out what is going to happen next. Therefore the box set, so they can read lose themselves in all the magic. Additionally I plan to do the books in small group instruction where they will discuss and share the wonder. This will rope in all the students as they move through the different books.

My Project

By supporting this project you will inspire my students now and in the future to become better readers and to look for the magic in real life and in books. Literature is such a treasure to be shared. Helping me to help my students will inspire them to read more and share the books with their siblings. This will encourage these little minds to go beyond the realm of the real and move into the wonders of the world. I can't wait to read and discuss these books with my students. You would help them to increase their reading skill by helping them develop a love for reading. They also could relate to the heroes in this story, since each one of the 4 main characters has characteristics that are weaknesses turned to strength you would also teach my students to never give up and to find strength in themselves.

My students do not get to experience much magic in their daily lives.

You would hand them a gift of immeasurable value. Most importantly, they would love to read and learn to read better because they will love what they are reading. And reading is the gift that keeps on giving. Self value is a gift we can't live without. You wold give both of these to my kids who don't receive much of either in their daily lives. Thank YOU!
