My Students

Many of my students worked in summer jobs and internships and it's time for us to do our taxes. We would like to be able to submit our 1040EZ forms electronically, saving tons of paper and toner.

My students attend a large urban high school in California.

Most of them will be the first in their families to attend college and come from families in which the primary language is not English. They find it challenging to get help with financial literacy at their homes and rely on the school to help them with taxes, online banking and even applying for financial aid.

My Project

By providing our classroom with a WiFi access point and lock for security, students will be able to complete their 1040EZ forms and submit them online. Students can also have their refunds directly deposited into their bank accounts. The amounts will be small but the learning experience is necessary given the changing nature of how the world now does business. It is my hope that students will be able to file their own taxes in the future and not rely on companies to do it for them.
