This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Now that we FINALLY have a laptop and LCD projector at our grade level, we're sad to say that only one class is really making use of this technology because we don't have the means to safely transport these items from room to room. My students don't think it's fair that we HOG this technology.

I LOVE my students...they are always looking out for each other and others, so I'm asking for this cart on their behalf.

Our school is located in a low income area of Arizona, with nearly all of our students on free or reduced lunch, along with the fact that most of them come from Spanish speaking homes. I use technology as much as possible in my classroom to "connect" them to what we are learning, whether it be showing them how the Grand Canyon was formed, reading an online interactive story, to having them participate in a math game show. My students have noticed, though, that this technology mostly stays in our classroom, and are concerned that their fellow 4th grade peers are missing out. They want them to be able to have the same access to this technology and they've realized that what's keeping us from "sharing" it, is the fact that we don't have a safe means of moving our ONE laptop and ONE LCD projector from class to class.

My Project

It makes no sense that in this technological day and age that our school is only able to afford ONE laptop and ONE LCD projector per grade level (approximately for about 120 students), but we have tried to make due with what we have. Right now, this limited technology basically stays put in my classroom because of the fear of dropping and/or breaking the equipment as we move it from room to room. My students have realized that this technology COULD be benefiting 120 students instead of just themselves, and to have a class that thinks about the needs of others, I think that's HUGE!
