Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember getting up in front of your class to show off what you felt was some of your best work? Do you also remember the screeches of "I can't see?" Well, my students have discovered that using a document camera in our class has helped solve the "I can't see" problem!

We are Mrs. F's Fabulous 4th Grade Family!

We want to learn, we love school, but we do not have all the cool techno gadgets that many "upper class" schools have. Our parents want to be involved and help as much as possible, but helping with monetary donations just isn't a reality. One hundred percent of our class is on the free lunch program, so that will give you a good idea of the economic background we come from. We are English Language Learners, which makes school even a greater challenge for us, but Mrs. F knows how to "hook" us and make learning fun and exciting for us! She also knows that with 50% of us wearing glasses now, she is challenged with the "I can't see" problem more than ever! Just because we're low income doesn't mean we shouldn't have the same access to technology as other schools...in reality, we need it even more!

My Project

The first time I used one of the two document document cameras that our school owns in my classroom, there were sighs of astonishment as well as screeches of excitement. At a recent "reading night," I used the camera to help project the story I was reading to over 200 people. Every could see the story I was reading, and the best part was hearing little voices trying to read the words on the page that they were seeing. Just last month, I used the document camera at a parent workshop, showing parents how to help their children at home with homework. Last week, my students used the document camera to "show off" their acrostic poems that they'd written...even my student who refuses to speak to me, let alone in front of the class, got up and shared her poem!

As an English Language Learner teacher and parent workshop leader for non-English speaking parents, I can't begin to tell you how invaluable having a document camera is.

With only two cameras for our entire school, it's quite discouraging not just to me, but to my students and parents, when I'm not able to use one to teach or give a workshop with. Seeing what is being taught makes all the difference, and showing off students' work is a gold star in life. Please help us out! Thank you!
