Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hands-on learning is not only more fun for my students, but it is also provides a more meaningful and lasting experience for them.

I teach twenty-two English Language Learners (ELL) in an inner-city school.

Eighty-five percent of my students are on free and reduced lunch. They are eager learners, but many are at risk. I know that with the right equipment, I can spark student interest, and help my students achieve success.

My Project

Learning to read is one of the biggest highlights of first grade, but it is hard work and takes lots of practice. These magnetic letters and boards will allow my students to practice the phonics skills and sight words needed to support their reading development. I have found that my students respond to and perform better when they have hands-on experiences to practice their reading skills. These materials will not only be utilized as part of our daily work stations, but sets will be made available to use at home to encourage and enable my students to continue their learning at home.

Your support will make it possible for me to provide my students with the hands-on learning experiences needed to support the development of their reading.

I am convinced that these experiences are critical to the success of beginning readers, especially at-risk students. In addition, these materials will provide the interest and motivation needed to get the hard work done.
