Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are feeling burned out and need something to help motivate them to keep on working hard and doing their best. My goal is to use these as rewards for them taking their time, showing their work, proving where their answer came from...all the skills we've worked all year on.

We are a k-6 low income school with multiple families living in single family homes and apartments.

School is the most consistent and constant thing in their life. Kids look forward to coming to school daily. For some, school is the only place where they can socialize, discover who they are, and really be a kid. Not only do we teach academics to these kids, we also teach them manners and how to be organized and responsible.

My Project

I'm requesting pencils with motivational sayings on them. I plan on using these randomly and surprisingly when I notice good work done by a kid. By that I mean, showing their work, increasing their reading level, passing a test, highlighting key words in a story that helps answer questions, and also by doing their very best (not giving up). Our kids are simple and little things make them happy, put a smile on their face. Also, this pencil they can use on their next assignment or take it home and show their family and tell them what it's for. The great thing about the variety of these pencils is they're specific for what a kid has done to deserve it. That's a feeling of ownership to them in which they'll take great pride in using it on future assignments and task.

These kids have worked very hard all year long and I would hate for all that hard work to go down the drain because they're burned out.

Kids spend 150 days working hard and get 4 days to show/prove how much they've learned. Every little thing helps. Something as simple as a "lucky" motivating pencil will brighten their day and show them that other people care too. Thank you!
