Choice Words - Reading & Writing Notebooks

My students need composition notebooks, theme books and index tabs.

My Students

"What are you thinking?" Readers and writers need a place to record their thoughts, reactions, and reflections. Notebooks give students a place to be able to make connections, draw inferences, and connect to text in a meaningful way. All 3rd graders will utilize these notebooks. Please help us!

My students are thoughtful, kind, energetic, inquisitive, and dedicated!

They love to learn and willing engage in their lessons. By actively participating, the students make connections to their family and personal lives. We are a rural, farming community, and have a low-socioeconomic base. Third grade students need school supplies to be successful and grow as readers and writers. With most families getting free or reduced lunches, they also waive school supply fees. Students come to school without essential supplies. Funding this grant will ensure that every 3rd grade student has a reading and writing notebook. They are excited and motivated emerging readers and writers. The notebooks will help them to make their thinking visible.

My Project

Welcome to a classroom where students love to read, to write and work together! Through the use of Reader's & Writer's notebooks students will become thoughtful readers and writers. They will experience shared writing lessons that model strategy lessons for inferring, asking questions, and summarizing. Written responses to literature will help students share their thinking, discover unknown words, and emerge with new ways to be successful readers and writers. The Reader's Journal is compiled of 3 labeled sections - Words, My Thinking, Shared Anchor Lessons. The Writer's Notebook is a tool in which students get daily shared writing experiences & lessons, and opportunities to use the new skills during independent writing.

Your donations - big or small - will help us to achieve a goal: that every individual student will have a Reader's and Writer's notebook to write, reflect, and learn with!

Best classroom practices have shown that maximum growth for students in literacy takes place when students can connect their reading and writing through interactive journals. Please help our students learn.
