We Want to Go on a Once in a Lifetime Trip to our Capital!

My students need a once in a lifetime trip to our state capital, Springfield, Illinois, to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Lincoln's Tomb & Memorial, and much more!

My Students

Do you remember the excitement of going on your first big field trip to your state or national capital? I want to provide a once in a lifetime experience for my students to visit Springfield and allow them the opportunity to create lasting memories as well as learn more about their state history

I am a fourth year teacher working at an inner city school with very few resources.

The school is a great community filled with teachers who extend themselves everyday to give much needed help to their students. I consider myself to be one of these teachers. I come to school early and stay late to work with my students and work on my classroom, so that the hours spent in the classroom is enjoyable as well as educational. The students at my school come from very poor families. 30% of the students in my classroom are homeless and all of the students in my class receive free breakfast and lunch. For many of these students the meals that they receive at school are the only meals they receive all day. I play the role of teacher and parent to many of my students and do everything within my means to help them.

My Project

Working with students who have so little at home, I really want to create a memorable experience for my graduating 8th graders. They have worked so hard over the past years to graduate this spring and it is truly an important experience for them to walk across that stage in June. We have been studying the US and Illinois constitution and I thought it would be a great experience for my class to go visit our capital and experience some of what we have been learning in the classroom. Many of my students have never left the city and simply cannot afford to go on trips even within the state. I know that this will be a once in a lifetime experience for my students and I do not want anyone to miss out.

Please help a great group of 8th grade students experience something that they have never experienced before by visiting Springfield, Illinois.

I know that this trip will provide my students with an opportunity to broaden their horizons, apply what they have learned in school and experience something truly memorable.
