Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want reading Elizabethan language to be an enjoyable experience for my 9th graders. I find that many students struggle reading Shakespeare because the language is too complex.

I teach 9th grade English at a “Needs improvement” Title One School.

Most of the students have low achievement scores. I feel honored to work with Freshman students because I set them up for the next four years of their High School experience. They are required to read a Shakespeare play in every English class for the next four years. I want their first experience with Shakespeare to be an enjoyable one; otherwise the students will suffer for the next four years.

My Project

These resources will help my students understand and appreciate a Shakespearian drama. If the students understand the language, then they can connect to the literature and apply meaning to the story. The students can do activities such as role playing, and extending the interpretations of the language.

If the students understand the language using “Shakespeare Made Easy”, then they can apply context clues for the vocabulary and engage in the reading far better than reading the textbook version.

This project will make a difference because the students will connect to the literature and can apply themes of the play to their own lives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
