Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to me with no or very little knowledge and or experience with art. I have given myself the challenge of teaching them about a famous artist about once a month.

I teach 2nd grade in a very high poverty area of town.

Most of my students live with some type of government assistance and receive free breakfasts and lunches at school. They come to me with little or no experience with art. Our city's museum recently had to close due to budget cuts and financial problems. I fear that they will not receive the exposure to the arts that they need to be well rounded students. Many of my students speak a second language at home and struggle daily with tasks in class.

My Project

I am hoping that exposure to art will give them the inspiration that they need to understand that they can accomplish anything their little hearts desire. I plan on teaching them about Picasso, Van Gough, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keeffe and many of the other famous artists that will inspire them.

Be it art, medicine, law or education.

I truly believe in my students and their abilities. I want nothing more for them to believe in themselves as as much as I do. After all, they are our future and deserve the best we can give them.
