My Students

A picture is worth a thousand words. It always amazes me how happy it makes a child to give them a picture of themselves involved in a school project. I love taking pictures of my students in action. My school is wonderful except for one thing ... money and lack of resources.

My school is the only “green” school in Florida.

The building was built out of recycled materials. We are working toward adding a solar powered grid to reduce energy. There are many wonderful aspects of this school, except money. The teachers are paid less, we have little materials and resources, and no money to be able to buy resources. We are a title-one school with low income families and very little technology. Many of my students do not have even a digital camera at home. My students will be taking part in a Disney Planet Challenge that focuses on projects that help the planet. Our project will be on solar energy. Disney suggests keeping a portfolio that documents the learning process. I am wanting for each of my students to create a class project portfolio which will include pictures, goals and objectives, project time lines, the fund raising that it took to receive the materials, records, charts and graphs, etc. This will be a portfolio that they will keep and be proud of.

My Project

My fourth graders are a wonderful group of students. They are creative and motivated to learn. I received materials from another grant that will give us the opportunity to learn about solar energy. I would like to encourage my students to create a project portfolio that shows the learning process of this project. I know it will be too expensive for me to print and pay for the pictures that we will need in order to create these.
