My Students

You have created an awesome essay, and you just know it will help you win that scholarship to your dream school. Sadly, you have no way of printing the copies to send to the scholarship selection committee. This scenario is a daily issue for my students.

My students are from the inner city, and most from low income families.

They chose Animal Science as their major area of study at our magnet school, and they are some of the highest achieving students here. They have career goals of veterinarian, marine biologist, and arachnologist. We spend countless hours working on college applications, scholarships, essays, and portfolios. Most of them do not have reliable computer access at home, so they stay after school or use their lunch break to come to my lab and work. They are amazing kids, with a desire to not only have a better life for themselves, but to also better their community.

My Project

One of the biggest issues the students have is getting all of their college information finished, printed, packaged, and sent to the prospective college. Few of the students have reliable computer access outside of school, and even fewer have printers. They rely on the labs here to complete and print their work. However, we have little to no money in our tight budget for supplies such as paper. What little paper we do get also has to be used for our lesson material, such as tests and homework. If we could get two cases of white paper, my students would have the opportunity to print all of their college applications and scholarship essays. They need the colored paper to help create unique, interesting portfolios of the work they have done here.

I see these students and their families struggle everyday just to make ends meet.

My students have a passion for animal health, and a strong inner desire to make a difference in the lives of their families and their community. They work hard, do well in school, volunteer, and serve as leaders in our school. Helping these students get into college and get scholarships will help make your community better too.
