What a Wonderful World of Instruments: The Americas

My students need a variety of instruments from Native American cultures.

My Students

My students love to learn about music from other cultures. It is fascinating to them that people who are so different from them, are also similar to them in that they love music!

I teach music to five hundred children in a suburban SC school.

These students make up twenty classes in grades kindergarten through five, including special education students. They are very eager to learn so we try to make every moment count in music class!

My Project

My students need real instruments from various cultures of the world. It is very difficult for students to get excited about seeing only a picture of an instrument and hearing it on a CD. If my students could actually see, touch, and play the real instruments it would be an experience they would never forget. With this project, my students will not only learn about instruments of Native Americans, but they will experience the instruments and the music culture first hand. They will be playing the tom tom drum, the slit drum, and the ching chok rattle.

Hands on learning is key for student achievement.

With the children able to actually hold and play these instruments, they will be more successful than if they were to look at pictures alone. Your donation will help to provide resources for all 500 of my students this year and will affect the music education of thousands of students in the years to come.
