My Students: History is alive and thriving in the music world! I am helping my students develop the only elementary band in our county at an urban, low-income school. We are in need of tools to help our band instruments perform at a level consistent with our desire to learn to play them.

The desire that these kids show for learning to play instruments is nothing short of amazing! We are creating history each day! Our community has embraced us as we work on developing a program that our children will be proud of for many years to come.

My Project: One of the challenges that I face as a Band Director is instrument and facilities maintenance. My music program is in need of the proper tools to ensure that our instruments are taken care of, as natural wear and tear are beginning to take their toll on our instruments as well as our facilities.

My students love to play their instruments, but more importantly, they enjoy learning to play them. I am beyond proud of everything my students do to brighten their futures each day, and I want to do everything possible to make sure that they will continue to do so! Thank you for your consideration! hide»

Dear Kathy, Tim and DurhamCares,

Thank you so much for your contribution to our Band program! Since help arrived in the form of the tools and ladder that you donated, our students have been able to more properly maintain both their instruments and our Band Room. My kids have a passion for music that is truly amazing, and we are beyond pleased with the support that our community has shown us! In the future, this equipment will be used to help students continue to progress as the first elementary Band program in the county!

With gratitude,
Mr. B.

Dear Kathy, Tim and DurhamCares,

Thank you so much for your contribution to our Band program! My students will be working very hard to ensure that they understand the function of their instruments, and will learn proper care for these instruments so that they will last them well into adulthood. The passion for music my students show is truly amazing, and now they can pursue their goals while being able to learn how to fix minor instrument maintenance issues. Thanks so much!

With gratitude,
Mr. B.

Good news: Project fully funded!

Mar 09 DurhamCares supporting DurhamCares
"DurhamCares provided DonorsChoose.org with matching funds for projects at Durham Public Schools. We engage Durham residents in loving their neighbors - the people next door, across town and around the world."

Mar 09 Tim from Durham, NC
"I gave to this project because my wife studied music in high school and college and it was a very valuable part of her education. All kids should have this kind of opportunity."

Mar 09 Kathy from Chapel Hill, NC
"I gave to this project because because I loved the band when I was in school and want you to have the help you need. Be sure you teach these kids how to make these repairs themselves and use these tools. It pays to be handy :)"
