Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Math can be taught different ways and students need to be shown as many of those ways as possible to find the method that matches their learning style. Number lines are one tool to assist students in their ability to calculate math facts, learn odd/even numbers, and practice skip counting.

We are a first grade class in a low socio-economic community with some wonderful families but, unfortunately, minimal financial support.

Our students come from a variety of home lives from stable to very unstable. School is not only a place to learn but a home away from home. These students are not only someones kids, they are my kids, which I am responsible for educating, enriching, and motivating to excel. They have it in them, please help them access it!

My Project

With the budget cuts to schools in California tightening, our ability to give these students resources is dwindling. My students need a set of student number lines, number line math practice books for centers, and a large classroom number line for a hands-on approach to learning math. It is my hope to provide number line manipulatives and learning tools to my students to help them meet the rigorous grade-level standards that I know they can! These tools will help my students be kinesthetic learners by using their hands to manipulate the number line and work through math concepts like addition, subtraction, skip counting, understanding odds and even numbers, and so much more!

Math concepts can be a real struggle for many students and having manipulatives and tools to go along with my teaching strategies can help make the difference to many students who may not understand a concept without being able to physically work through the math problems.

These tools aid in a student's ability to kinesthetically learn by doing instead of just by hearing. Thank you so very much for your consideration of our project needs.
