My Students

More Labs! More Labs! is what I always hear from my students. I want to keep their interest in science (and in school) by doing more labs. The school funding I get is not enough to afford glassware, so I thought I would try out donorschoose.org and see what happens.

These students I have are very eager to learn, especially when we do labs.

Their experience with science (and with labs) is very limited before they get to my class. I have about 35% Hispanic, 10% Pacific islander, my school is about 80% free or reduced lunch.

My Project

I am requesting an assortment of labware: beakers, a variety of flasks, graduated cylinders, some thermometers, petri dishes, and watch glasses. There are hundreds of labs I can do with these materials. I do a flame test demo using the watch glasses that really gets them excited.

With these supplies I hope to get my students interested in science by doing more labs.

I plan on sharing my glassware with 3 other chemistry teachers as well. Our science budget does not quite do enough for all of our students.
