My Students

"I'm going to be a famous writer and illustrator some day!" I've heard this so many times from my eager young pupils, and I'm sure some day one of them will do just that. My students are eager to combine their own artistic talents with technology so they can publish professional looking stories!

I teach a wonderful group of 4th graders.

They work hard every day and enjoy reading and writing. These young minds want to prove to the world, and to their fellow students, that they are worthy of the Caldecott Medal. I am thrilled to work with these children every day and encourage them to think big and reach for the stars. We are blessed to have two older but capable computers with Microsoft software in our classroom, but with current cutbacks, we are unable to purchase a scanner.

My Project

My students have asked me for a scanner so they can scan their original artwork and include it with their published stories. There are so many other potential uses for the scanner in our classroom. I would love to be able to scan their projects and use them for future lesson examples in subsequent years. We could scan student notes and provide copies to absent peers via email so they don't fall behind, or provide copies of notes to those students who have difficulties taking notes in the first place. I try to keep the parents up to date with activities in the classroom. With a scanner, I could send them copies of the children's work directly through email. The children and I look forward to using a scanner to support their learning in the classroom.

There is a current push to include technology education in the classroom.
