This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school budget is frozen like an ice cube. We have no way to keep new and exciting books in kids' hands.

Despite the rough neighborhood and low-income apartment buildings my students go home to, my students love to read.

They are always asking for the next book in the series, or if I was able to buy a few copies of a book they saw in the library so they could read it with a group. Their love for reading is going to yield huge benefits down the road, but for now, I have to keep a steady cache of high-interest books coming in!

My Project

A have a few boys that hated reading in the beginning of the year. Maybe you know a guy that hated reading when he was in school? Well, now they are hooked on this graphic novel series called Bone, by Jeff Smith. They read them like a lion devouring prey. It has been a miraculous addiction!

Kids deserve books.

It's one of the things that is lacking in their homes, especially in a community like this. But when a kid gets a brand new book in their hands, one that has never been read before, they feel valued and loved.
