Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It seems like every time we go to print a special poem or one of our stories, the one printer that services our entire school is out of commission. Not only is it frustrating for the teachers, it is very disappointing for the eager learners that are waiting to read and share their work!

This project will be shared between two first grade classes in an inner city school.

90% percent of our forty-four students receive free and reduced lunches and 70% are English Language Learners. Our students are eager learners and are excited about learning to read and write.

My Project

We try to capitalize on the enthusiasm of our first graders for learning by providing them with varied learning opportunities. This year, we have embraced Writer’s Workshop as a means of developing and enhancing both reading and writing skills. Our students love to write poems and stories, but they love publishing and sharing their work even more. It seems like every time the students try to prepare for a class demonstration, print out their class story, or publish their work, they run into a printer problems! Having a shared, reliable printer will not only ease the frustration that printer problems cause for the adults, but will also alleviate the disappointment our learners are faced with when we are unable to publish their work. Also, taking advantage of the Double Your Impact Offer that Hewlett Packard is offering educators that purchase HP products will reduce the cost of this project by 50%.

This project is important because having a reliable and accessible printer will allow us to increase learning opportunities for our eager first graders.

We will be able to create and print materials to support and develop the reading and writing skills of our students. More importantly, it will provide us with the necessary materials to publish and share our work with others!
