Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

After returning from Japan, one of my student's parent told me of the beautiful crane displays and the story of Sadako Sasaki. This year our school has adopted the theme of world peace and my students and I though it would be fitting to celebrate this by making 1000 cranes.

The school that I teach at is a charter school, and because of this we do not have as much funding as public schools.

The students are chosen randomly from a lottery in kindergarten. Our school day begins at 7:50 and ends at 4 pm. The students come from various socioeconomic and racial backgrounds. The diversity of our student and the emphasis on educating the whole child, makes this school wonderfully unique.

My Project

These resources will change my students' lives because it will teach them the importance of giving back to the world. Through the inspirational story of Sadako Sasaki, the students will be able to learn not only about the historical significance surrounding her life, but also they will feel connected to the entire world. Having these cranes displayed in Japan would be an amazing accomplishment that none of the students' will ever forget. Also, every crane that my students make will symbolize their dedication to world peace.

Without donor support my students will not be able to experience this hands-on service learning project.

Without the materials, students will not get as strong of a message. Having the students take part in this world-wide project will make them better world citizens and more appreciative for what they have.
