Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you read the first book in a series, and when you finished it, you HAD to read the second book? My students haven't been able to read very many sequels in class, as we don't have very many sequels IN class.

I teach at a Title 1 school in Arizona.

My class of 4th graders have just recently been introduced to the Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson. They are loving the manga volume one book I have for them to read. We discussed, although it briefly, Greek Gods and Goddesses and they enjoyed learning about Zeus, Hades, Athena, and the other inhabitants of Olympus. We've discussed life before Xbox 360s, Internet, and even the light bulb.

My Project

I would love to be able to get sets of books so my students can do book studies and literature circles in small groups. We are currently reading "The Black Stallion" by Walter Farley, but that book is a bit too high for some of my students (it's part of the 4th grade curriculum so we have to read it). If we could get books that were more my student's level (The Percy Jackson Series, The Maximum Ride Series, and the Little House Series to name a few) that would be awesome!

With your help, you'll be making sure my students have some new books that are their level.

New books that they already have expressed an interest in reading and learning more about the topics. Not only will you be helping this years students, but my future students as well. Hopefully together, we can instill a love of reading while the students discuss and support their opinions about the books they read in their groups.
