All that will be missing is a cup of tea when my current reading area in my classroom is transformed into a more comfortable environment to display and read different literature.

In my third grade classroom, my student love to independently read. Our reading area is a place that should be relaxing and inviting. My students are constantly asking to go to the reading area instead of their desks. I pose the challenge to my students to read more than one book by the same author. We have an author study that corresponds with a book that we are reading together at a given time. There have been numerous times this year that my students have asked for other books by Kate DiCamillo.

By creating a more comfortable reading area in my classroom my students will be more inclined to read independently. With a book carousel I will be able to display a given author's collection of work. Bean bag chairs in our school colors will provide comfort and an easy clean. Finally a collection of Kate DiCamillo's books will allow my students to explore an author more in depth.

Providing students with a relaxing and comforting reading environment in third grade allows children to enjoy reading and more importantly develop a love for reading. Their imaginations grow as they travel with an author through a story. As the love for reading in school continues to grow students will find themselves reading at home and on vacation more regularly. By creating this reading center, my students will not associate reading as a task but as a pleasure.
