I teach First Grade in a high needs urban school district in Michigan. Our district does not give us materials and supplies. We have to depend on the kindness of donors and friends to equip our classrooms, make copies, and give the children healthy snacks. My students do a great deal of work, and when they put it in their desks, it makes their desks look messy. We need mailboxes in order to keep our room neat.

Our district does not give the students or teachers supplies, materials or even adequate classroom furniture. My classroom does not even have enough tables for us to have desks and workshop space. We do not have enough hooks for the children to hang up their book bags and coats. We need a cubby mailbox area to keep our work neat. When the children go to art, they stuff their papers in their small desks.

If we had cubby mailboxes, the children could put their class work, art work and other materials away neatly. Their art work would go home neatly instead of being folded and stuffed into their desks. Our room would look so much better and neater. Every day I have to check the children's desks to be certain that they have taken home their work, so that the desks do not look messy. With cubby mailboxes, the children could learn to go to their box and remove their work.

As a donor, you could help us have a neat classroom. The children would not have to fold their art work, and their parents could see how lovely their work really is. With camera cases, the children could learn to take care of our new digital cameras when we go out of the school.
