My Students

I teach in a high school in an urban district in Ohio, which has a high poverty rate. They face challenges everyday that most students in our country don't face. Yet they manage to come to our school and succeed. I hope that they get a chance to make their dreams come true and that they go to college.

Our school is a college prep high school meant to give our students who come from various backgrounds,and families from all over our county a chance to excel.

They have the opportunity to be involved in the science and medical community who are our partners. Most of our students if they went to other schools in our district would never have the experience that they will have at our school. Many face challenges every day by making it through rough neighborhoods were crime and violence is the norm. Here they have a chance to make something of themselves. They have the opportunity to become a doctor, a nurse, or some medical or science profession. Our staff and faculty try to give our students the best education we can. However, our school has recently only opened and our materials are short. This grant is meant to help get those materials so that are kids can have the same advantages as other kids all across this great country. Most of our students are dedicated to reaching their goals.

My Project

The books that I need are: Tocqueville-Democracy In America, Nelson-The Elections of 2008, Madison, Hamilton, and Jay-Federalist Papers, Mayhew- Congress: The Electoral Connection, Neustadt, Presidential Power, Agresto, The Supreme Court and Constitutional Democracy. Having these materials will enrich my students, and give them great insight and understanding of this course. It will help them to think critically and see different perspectives of how her government has operated in the past and present. These materials will help to make them well rounded and familiar with some of the great thinkers of our time. It will give them a great foundation into the principles that make up the fundamental ideas of country. It will give them understanding as to what shaped our countries formation and what things still are the guiding post for us today. These materials are essential for my students to have if they are going to do well on the AP exam, and in any other political courses in college.
