My students have become avid readers, who would have thought? I teach English to ninth graders who came into my room saying, "I hate reading." Together, we have learned to find interesting reading material for each and every student. My students are low level struggling readers that have become sponges of knowledge this year. I am extremely proud of their progress and together, as a class, we want to achieve an additional 100 points to each and every student's Lexile level in our classroom. These two books will give my students the opportunity to read Sharon Draper whom writes specifically for their age and economic standing. My students await the arrival of their new "Tears of a Tiger" books. Romeo and Juliet is a standard for our ninth graders, and this version is geared for low level readers. Presenting Shakespeare is difficult, but with the proper learning materials, we can all be successful

My students face the obstacle of poverty and low level comprehension. They are wonderful assets to our future that need to be pushed to their potential. They have wonderful minds and great will - I just need to put them both together.

Currently we have 41 novels of "Tears of a Tiger," which is not enough for every student. We are sharing books - which is difficult to do. Our existing set of novels are old and the pages have been Scotch taped numerous times. Holding and reading a book in good condition, makes you feel good from the minute you pick up the book! The 60 minute Romeo and Juliet books that are written at a ninth grade level would be just perfect for our English classroom. We currently have Romeo and Juliet play books that are written in Shakespeare's words; these books are well over my student's heads and we need help to bring the words of Shakespeare to their level.

Your help can bring the necessary materials to the hands of my students. These students can make a difference with the proper studying tools and people that care. Donors Choose is an amazing opportunity to supply my classroom with the much needed books for enhancing learning. I read all of my entries to my students before submitting our proposal, and we are keeping our fingers crossed. We understand that there are many projects in need of funding and thank you for just looking at our proposal.
