Color My Class!

My students need a color printer in the classroom.

This project expired on July 7, 2010.

I work in a low socio-economic area. My school is also a Title 1 school with a significant number of students eligible for free lunch. I am currently teaching 7th & 8th grade ELA.

There are no supplies given to students from the department of education. Many times teachers are responsible for bringing their own supplies. Today, with the economy, money is tight and I would love to see my students receive every opportunity that can be given.

I would like an HP color printer so that my students are able to print their work in color to help decorate our school. My students would definitely benefit from having a color printer in the classroom. I am a part of the "Enterprise Academy" in my school. Our academy focuses on teaching our students about business and the real world. Each quarter, students are asked to create different projects for the academy. Such projects include creating business cards, websites to explain and reflect the academy and advertisements for fundraisers we hold throughout the year. After students create these projects, they are asked to create a display of what they have done. They are asked to print out business cards, each website page (must have at least 8) and of course create as many attractive advertisements as they can to raise money for our fundraisers. Throughout the year, we work with many different fundraisers. In October, we raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. During the month of December, we have a toy drive for The Seamons Society and Toys for Tots. After, we work with the American Heart Association by creating Valentine Day cards in February, and we make flower pens from March through May. With all these activities, we really do need a color printer so we are able to enhance our work. The students work extremely hard and definitely deserve a color printer to brighten up our classroom and hallway. They always ask the same question, "Can I print my project out in color?" Unfortunately, as of now, the answer always remains the same, "No, I'm sorry, we do not have a color printer." Having a color printer to create their projects and advertisements will help and benefit my students by allowing them to reach their goals to make our school look beautiful and more importantly help others in need. I truly hope you will allow my students to create the best products they can with a color printer. They will be able to create things that they are proud of and can enjoy!

Your generosity will enable my students to thrive in a system that often lets them down. Color makes any atmosphere happier and will only encourage my students to want to work harder and to put as much effort as they possibly can into every activity we work on. Sometimes black and white is bleak and I am just trying to add a little sunshine and happiness into the lives of my students. They have the ability I just want to motivate them to be the best they can be!
